By Newsmeter Network Published on 25 Nov 2020 2:37 PM GMTHyderabad: The GHMC election campaigning took an ugly turn on Wednesday, with former Prime Minister P.V. Narsimha Rao and former Chief Minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh N.T. Rama Rao getting dragged into the political mudslinging. AIMIM MLA and party floor leader in the Telangana Assembly, Akbaruddin Owaisi, challenged the TRS party to destroy the PV Ghat and NTR Ghat, instead of targeting poor people in the name of clearing encroachments.
"The graves of P.V. Narasimha Rao and N.T. Rama Rao are located on lands encroached into lakes. Poor people have their homes on the lakes and you come to destroy and displace them. I challenge you to first destroy both the graves. I want to see if you have the guts to do that," said Akbaruddin, while addressing an election rally in the city.
Taking a strong objection to Akbaruddin's comments, Minister K.T. Rama Rao took to Twitter saying that he condemns the comments against the former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao and former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao.
"These two persons have upheld the dignity of the Telugu people. Both of them have been in the public service for a long time, one as the Prime Minister and the other as Chief Minister. Inappropriate remarks on such superheroes are reprehensible. There is no place for such comments in a democracy," KTR tweeted.
Taking this war of words to a next level, BJP State President and MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar challenged Akbaruddin to destroy the ghats of the great leaders himself. "I challenge you. If you can do that, we will destroy Darussalam (AIMIM party headquarters) within two hours", Sanjay said addressing a rally on Wednesday.
It may be noted that the Telangana Government is celebrating P.V. Narsimha Rao's birth centenary in a grand way and has also organised a year-long celebration. K.T. Rama Rao has been given that name after his father K. Chandrasekhar Rao was inspired by NT Rama Rao.
