Alka Lamba on Revanna’s case: PM Modi must break silence, bring JD(S) MP back to India
Prajwal Revanna is a Janata Dal (Secular) MP from the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency
By Kedar Nadella Published on 5 May 2024 1:02 PM GMTHyderabad: “Everywhere you go, the members of the Mahila Congress will stop and ask you to break silence and get Prajwal Revanna back to India,” said All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba to prime minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.
Showing the various protests being organised across states such as Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh the Congress leader said that the people are demanding the death penalty for Prajwal Revanna.
Who is Prajwal Revanna?
Prajwal Revanna is a Janata Dal (Secular) MP from the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency. After allegations of sexual abuse against Prajwal came out, including alleged evidence in around 3,000 files, JD(S) suspended Prajwal from the party on April 30.
Prajwal is Karnataka JD(S) MLA HD Revanna’s son and the grandson of JD(S) founder and former prime minister HD Deve Gowda. Prajwal is said to be currently out of the country on a diplomatic passport.
‘BJP knew about Prajwal’s behaviour’
Alka Lamba began the press meet on Sunday at the AICC headquarters in Delhi with a video.
The video showed PM Modi speaking at a public meeting about how the fear of the death penalty will scare all those who commit crimes against women. Then a clip of him at a public meeting stating that a vote for JD9S) and Prajwal will strengthen Modi.
Showing a letter allegedly written by BJP leader Devaraj Gowda to the party leadership about Prajwal’s actions in December last year, Alka Lamba said that PM Modi and others went into an alliance with JD(S) and supported Prajwal’s candidacy ignoring the advice from the party.
There is evidence from more than 3,000 videos which show the crimes committed against 1,000 women in Karnataka, Alka Lamba alleged and added that even household help and party workers have been assaulted by Prajwal.
SIT arrested HD Revanna
An SIT was formed to look into the issue which led to the arrest of his father HD Revanna in the case.
“The SIT has started doing its work but the issue has reached outside the country hence we are asking for the help of the Central government to bring him back. We request the SIT to fast-track the case and request the death penalty for him in case he is guilty,” she said.
“The ones who have talked about Beti Bachao are now saving criminals,” Alka Lamba said and asked the PM to speak on the issue.
Plans to take up the issue with President
Alka Lamba said that they have written to president Droupadi Murmu requesting a meeting with her. The Himachal Mahila Congress team hopes to meet the president in Himachal and explain the situation.
Speaking about planning protests across states against the PM’s alleged inaction on the case, she said that the ‘the National Mahila Congress and its state units will not stop raising their voices until PM Modi brings back Prajwal to India.’
