Hyderabad: All five MLAs of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in Bihar are facing serious criminal cases, revealed an independent analysis conducted by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR).
The report has not mentioned the nature of the crime committed by each candidate. But it said serious criminal cases related to murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, crimes against women are registered against them.
AIMIM has won five seats in the recently concluded Bihar assembly election. The party's state president, Akhtarul Imam, won from the Amour constituency defeating JD(U) candidate Saba Zafar by more than 25,000 votes. Akhtarul Imam secured 51,925 votes.
Muhammed Izhar Asfi from Kochadhamam constituency defeated JD(U)'s Mujahid Alam by more than 25,000 votes and secured 52,380 votes. Shahnawaz Alam, the AIMIM candidate from the Jokihat constituency, won by around 7,000 votes. He defeated Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate Sarfraz Alam and secured 59,092 votes.
AIMIM candidate from Baisi constituency, Syed Ruknuddin, defeated BJP's Vinod Kumar by more than 3,000 votes and secured 50,673 votes. The party's candidate from Bahadurganj constituency, Azhar Nayeemi, defeated Lakhan Lal Pandit by more than 15,000 votes. AIMIM had contested 20 seats in the Bihar election.
However, among the major parties, 54 (73%) out of 74 winning candidates from RJD, 47(64%) out of 73 winning candidates from BJP, 20 (47%) out of 43 winning candidates from JD(U), 16 (84%) out of 19 winning candidates from INC, 10 (83%) out of 12 winning candidates from CPI(ML)(L) and 5 (100%) out of 5 winning candidates from AIMIM have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
Of the 241 seats, 123 (51%) winning candidates have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, crimes against women.
Interestingly the number of crorepati candidates also increased from the last elections. Of the 241 winning candidates, 194 (81%) are crorepatis. Out of 243 MLAs, 162 (67%) MLAs were crorepatis, said the ADR report.
