Andhra Pradesh liquor scam: ED summons former Rajya Sabha MP Vijaya Sai Reddy for questioning on Jan 22
Amaravati: Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former Rajya Sabha MP Vijaya Sai Reddy for questioning in the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam case on January 22.
He has been given the option to attend the inquiry at the ED offices in either Delhi or Hyderabad.
ED tightens noose in Liquor Policy Case
The summons come as part of the ED’s widening probe into alleged financial irregularities linked to the liquor policy implemented in Andhra Pradesh between 2019 and 2024, during the tenure of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) government.
Allegations of large-scale irregularities
The ruling coalition has accused the previous YSRCP administration of orchestrating large-scale irregularities through its liquor policy, claiming that the system facilitated illegal gains and caused substantial losses to the state exchequer.
Based on these allegations, the Enforcement Directorate initiated a detailed investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Bribes and Hawala Transactions under scanner
According to investigative sources, liquor suppliers and distillery operators allegedly paid hefty bribes to influential individuals during the period. The ED suspects that these proceeds of crime were subsequently transferred through hawala channels, triggering money laundering charges.
Names of leaders, officials emerge
As the probe gathered momentum, the names of several YSRCP leaders and senior officials reportedly surfaced. Vijay Sai Reddy has now emerged as a key figure in the investigation, prompting the ED to issue formal notices for questioning.
Crucial examination ahead
The ED’s interrogation of Vijay Sai Reddy is expected to be a critical step in tracing money trails and establishing accountability in the alleged liquor scam. Investigators believe the outcome of the questioning could shape the next phase of the high-profile probe.
