AP Polls: BJP leaders met Naidu, Pawan to finalise seat sharing, candidates

Amaravati: Senior BJP leaders including Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat met TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan on Monday to finalise NDA candidates in Andhra Pradesh for the upcoming Parliamentary and State Assembly elections. The leaders met at Naidu’s residence in Undavalli, Guntur district, AP.

Two days ago, the Telugu Desam Party, Jana Sena Party, and the BJP finalised their alliance for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls in Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh has 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats.

BJP expects 6 Assembly, LS seats

BJP is expected to contest six Assembly seats and an equal number of Lok Sabha constituencies while Jana Sena will fight it out in 24 Assembly segments and two Lok Sabha constituencies in the remaining 145 Assembly seats. It was told that they have asked for seats in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada among the six.

“The number will remain the same but they are working on the constituencies. They will finalise the constituencies and the probable candidates soon,” the sources told.

The BJP leaders will take forward the issue with the central leadership in Delhi ahead of a crucial election meeting on Tuesday to zero in on the candidates.

Modi, Naidu, Pawan to share state after a decade

The TDP has invited prime minister Narendra Modi to attend an election meeting which could take place between March 17 and 20. Modi is likely to attend the meeting but the date is not yet finalised.

If Modi attends the meeting, it will be a good way to kick off the campaign for the TDP. Also, it could be the first time in a decade that Modi, Naidu and Kalyan would be sharing the same stage.
