Another banner that read "Mr. Putin welcome to India, I will teach you how to encroach states without a war" was also erected in the city.
Meanwhile, state minister for municipal administration and urban development K.T Rama Rao tweeted, "74 years ago, A Union Home Minister came to unite and integrate the people of Telangana into Indian union. Today A Union Home Minister has come to divide and bully the People of Telangana & their state Govt (sic)."
MLC Kavitha Kalvakuntla also took a jibe at the BJP on Twitter, accusing the saffron party of trying to hijack Hyderabad Integration Day. She tweeted, "Going by their usual and repetitive script and formula of "Election-Celebration", the BJP is trying to hijack 'Hyderabad Integration Day' celebrations in the state."
She requested the Union Home minister to talk about the BJP and its leaders' contributions to the Independence movement, Hyderabad Integration movement, and the Telangana movement.
"The contribution of the BJP towards efforts to give people their rights for our country stands to be nothing," she tweeted.
Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations
BJP had announced a year-long celebration. Union Home minister Amit Shah kickstarted the celebrations on 17 September in Hyderabad.
Sharpening his verbal attacks on KCR, Mr. Shah said the Centre will celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day come what may. "Koi kare ya na kare, Bharat sarkar Hyderabad Swatanra Divas manayegi (whether anyone celebrates it or not, the government of India will celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day)," he said addressing a rally at the Parade Ground on Saturday.
Meanwhile, KCR unfurled the national flag on Telangana Jathiya Samaikyatha Dinotsavam (Telangana National Integration Day) to commemorate Hyderabad's merger with the Union of India 75 years ago. He hoisted the Tricolour at NTR Stadium a few minutes after Mr. Shah unfurled the national flag at the Parade Ground.
In his speech, KCR warned of "disruptive forces" in the state. "There are opportunists who have nothing to do with history and development of the state who are trying to distort and pollute the bright history of Telangana with petty politics," he said.
