Hyderabad: TPCC president Revanth Reddy lashed out at chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, claiming that the government did not pay attention to the weather department’s early warnings. Revanth Reddy was on a tour of the Uppal and LB Nagar areas within his Parliamentary constituency on Saturday. “KCR is more concerned about party defections than people’s lives,” he said.

Revanth Reddy criticised the government for ignoring the floods, which have become a common phenomenon for nine years. “It is clear that there has been a loss of Rs 3,000 crore in the state so far. It is estimated that 10 lakh acres of crops have been damaged,” he said.

Revanth demanded that the government provide Rs 20,000 for agricultural lands, now filled with sand dunes, and the people who lost families in the floods be given Rs 25 lakh as aid. “A minimum of Rs 15,000 should be given as temporary relief,” said Revanth. He said that the situation of Hyderabad city has turned into a disaster as 90 per cent of the Nizam era water bodies have been encroached by the BRS leaders, which lead to flooding.

Revanth said it is the responsibility of Union Minister and Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy to bring Rs 1,000 crore flood relief to Telangana.

Revanth Reddy also inspected the elevated corridor works in Uppal on Saturday and said that if there is no progress in the work, he will report it to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in the Parliament on Monday. Revanth Reddy also visited Mamata Nagar in Nagole and inspected the unfinished nala works in the colony and discussed the delay with the officials. The residents of Omkar Nagar Colony on LB Nagar Sagar Road discussed their issues from overflowing drainages to Revanth Reddy.

CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka inspected the flooded areas in Bhadrachalam on Saturday. He said, “The state government has failed miserably in undertaking flood relief measures in the state. Many people lost their lives in the heavy rains. The government machinery is being used by BRS rulers for their political needs, causing problems to the people.”

Meanwhile, BJP leader and the MLA from the Huzurabad constituency, Eatala Rajender visited the collapsed bridge which led to Patharlapalli village. He inspected the flooded effected area and spoke to the villagers.

KTR supervises relief measures

Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao held a teleconference on Saturday to review the relief measures being taken in the wake of the heavy rains that hit Telangana last week.

KTR instructed the officials to monitor water bodies in cities and towns regularly and to empty them if necessary. He also asked officials to shift people from low-lying areas, if necessary.

KTR asked the officials to raise awareness among people about the importance of boiling and filtering water before drinking. He also instructed them to collaborate with Mission Bhagiratha officials to promptly fix leaks in pipelines and ensure the chlorination of drinking water.

The minister also directed the officials to coordinate with District Medical and Health Officers (DMHOs) for medical and health programmes. He instructed them to demolish the remaining dilapidated buildings and to coordinate with electricity department officials regarding repair works.
