Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will participate in a high-level meeting convened by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in New Delhi on August 5.

A delegation of senior BRS leaders led by party working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) will attend the consultative meeting scheduled for 3 pm at Nirvachan Sadan, the ECI headquarters.

Top leaders to represent BRS

The BRS delegation will comprise key party figures, including Rajya Sabha MP and Floor Leader KR Suresh Reddy, Rajya Sabha MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, former Member of Parliament B Vinod Kumar, former MP T Balka Suman, and BRS General Secretary RS Praveen Kumar.

The ECI extended an official invitation to the BRS through Secretary Ashwani Kumar Mohal, which was also forwarded to the party leadership via the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana.

Focus on reforms and code of conduct

According to party sources, the meeting will address crucial issues concerning electoral governance, including long-pending representations from political parties, electoral reforms and procedural enhancements and implementation and enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

BRS officials stated that the party intends to present its views on making the electoral process more transparent, accountable, and inclusive.

Meeting gains significance amid national developments

This meeting comes at a politically sensitive time, with multiple states preparing for Assembly polls and the 2026 Lok Sabha elections on the horizon. The discussions are expected to carry added weight as political parties seek clarity on recent electoral developments and regulatory changes.

SIR Row adds to the meeting’s importance

The meeting also coincides with rising political tensions over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and other states. Opposition parties, particularly the Congress, have been demanding a rollback of the exercise, alleging irregularities.

Parliament proceedings have been repeatedly disrupted over the issue, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi scheduled to lead a protest in Bengaluru on the same day as the ECI meeting.
