Budget 2026: Step-motherly treatment towards Telangana is not fair says Bhatti

Deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka described the budget as a "deep disappointment," alleging that Telangana was completely ignored

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka launched a scathing attack on the Union Government following the presentation of the ₹48.21 lakh crore Union Budget 2024-25. Speaking at a media conference at Praja Bhavan, Vikramarka described the budget as a "deep disappointment," alleging that Telangana was completely ignored despite repeated high-level representations by the state leadership.

Neglect of Hyderabad’s Economic Pillars

The Deputy CM highlighted several key sectors where the state expected significant support but received "not even a single rupee":

Electronics & Semi-conductors: Despite a national allocation of ₹40,000 crore for electronics, Telangana—home to giants like ECIL—was excluded. Similarly, semiconductor units were granted to other states despite personal requests from CM Revanth Reddy.

Pharma & Bio-Pharma: Vikramarka questioned why Hyderabad, a global pharma hub that supplied vaccines to the world during COVID-19, was not mentioned in the new pharma hub initiatives.

The "Orange Economy": He expressed outrage over Hyderabad-centric initiatives in the audio-video, gaming, and comics (AVGC) sector being shifted to Mumbai. "What wrong has Telangana done?" he asked.

Medical & Tourism: Telangana was excluded from the Regional Medical Value Hub and the national tourism package, despite housing UNESCO heritage sites like Ramappa Temple.

Welfare and Fiscal Concerns

Vikramarka raised alarms over the "weakening" of the MGNREGS (National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme) and a perceived lack of concern for SC, ST, and minority welfare. He also pointed out a fiscal double standards. "The Centre denied Telangana’s request for a 4% fiscal deficit limit while setting its own at 4.9%. Is Telangana not an integral part of this country?," asked Bhatti.

The Deputy CM concluded with a call for unity, urging all Telangana MPs—regardless of party affiliation—to rise above politics and submit a joint representation to the Prime Minister to secure the state's rightful share.
