Kuppam: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched a scathing attack on YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of abandoning Cheeli Singaiah after he was allegedly run over by Jagan’s convoy during a rally in Palnadu district last month.
Victim’s wife raises suspicion
The controversy intensified after Singaiah’s wife, Lourdu Mary, expressed doubts on Wednesday about the circumstances leading to her husband’s death. She claimed that after the accident on June 18, Singaiah sustained only minor injuries and was speaking coherently. Mary alleged that there was foul play while he was being taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
She further stated that some individuals claiming to be sent by minister Nara Lokesh pressured her to sign certain documents, but she refused. Mary also alleged that the police showed her videos of the accident to coerce her into signing papers.
Police register case against Jagan and aides
Based on her complaint, Guntur police registered a case on June 22 against Jagan Mohan Reddy and his aides under BNS section 106(1) (causing death by negligence). Those named in the FIR include Jagan Mohan Reddy, his car driver Ramana Reddy, Personal Assistant Nageswar Reddy, MP YV Subba Reddy, and former ministers Perni Nani and Vidadala Rajini.
The incident occurred at Etukuru village on the National Highway when Jagan was leading a rally from Tadepalli to Sattenapalli. Police stated that Singaiah was found by the roadside with grievous injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
Vehicle seized for investigation
Last week, police seized Jagan’s bulletproof vehicle involved in the incident as part of the ongoing investigation.
Speaking to reporters in his constituency, Kuppam, Chittoor district, CM Naidu accused Jagan of inhuman behaviour. “His vehicle crushed Singaiah, and he left him on the road like a puppy. Instead of showing humanity, he is now threatening the victim’s wife for political gains,” he alleged.
He urged the YSRCP leadership to refrain from politicising the tragic incident and demanded justice for Singaiah’s family.
