CM Breakfast Scheme: Lack of basic kitchen facilities puts students in danger, alleges Revanth

Hyderabad: ā€œYou have come down to playing politics with schoolchildren without paying attention to the problems in the mid-day meal scheme which is already being implemented,ā€ TPCC president Revanth Reddy accused CM K Chandrashekar Rao, regarding the implementation of the recently launched Chief Ministerā€™s Breakfast Scheme in Telangana.

He said that the government has neither provided the kitchen facilities needed for the mid-day meal scheme nor has resolved the demands of the mid-day meal workers.

Addressing the CM in an open letter on Saturday, Revanth Reddy alleged a number of drawbacks in the implementation of the scheme, including the lack of basic facilities in schools, non-payment of bills to mid-day meal workers, non-payment of cooking maintenance expenses in accordance with increased prices and non-supply of gas cylinders forcing cooking to be done on firewood stoves.

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president said that ā€œthe good intention of providing nutritious food besides increasing the attendance of students in government schoolsā€ is not enough for the scheme to become a success.

On October 6, the BRS government launched the Chief Ministerā€™s Breakfast Scheme across the state in select schools. The scheme would be extended to all government-run schools soon. A first-of-its-kind public project in the state, it is said to benefit 23 lakh students in 27,147 government and panchayat raj schools. The scheme was launched at a cost of around Rs 400 crore.
