Complete 7.6L housing units by 2026: Naidu directs Housing Department

Amaravathi: Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Monday directed the officials of the Housing Department to complete 7.6 lakh housing units by 2026.
Naidu reiterated that by 2029 all the eligible should have their own houses.
Chairing a review meeting on Housing, the Chief Minister said that basic amenities should be provided for all the layouts in the state. Chandrababu Naidu also ordered the officials to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre to launch the Prime Minister Awas Yojana-2 (PMAY-2) scheme in the state to ensure that every eligible person gets a proper house.
The officials informed the Chief Minister that after the TDP-led NDA government was formed, 58,578 housing units were built under the PMAY (Urban) and 17,197 units were built under PMAY (Rural). Another one lakh housing units will be completed by December and all the arrangements are on to hand over the keys to the beneficiaries, the officials informed the Chief Minister during the meeting.
Officials also said that the Housing wing is supervising the quality of the construction and the measurements through drones. Chief Minister advised them to utilize the same technology in the bigger layouts too.
"With the close cooperation of the departments concerned, steps should be taken to provide basic amenities in all the layouts in the State," the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister agreed to appoint 597 officers for the Housing Department. Minister for Housing Kolusu Parthsarathi and the senior officials of the Housing Department are present at the review meeting.
