Congress alleges BJP added 2 crore drug addicts yearly, demands MP Dy CM’s resignation

New Delhi: The Congress today demanded the resignation of the Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda for his alleged links with the kingpin of a drug racket busted recently by the Gujarat Police and NCB in the Madhya Pradesh.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here today, the Madhya Pradesh state Congress president Jitu Patwari alleged that the kingpin of the drug racket busted in Bhopal, wherein narcotics worth thousands of crores were seized, was a close associate of the Deputy CM Devda.

He said the BJP had come out with a lame defence that just because Devda had been photographed with the kingpin does not mean they were close. Patwari said, it was not about just one or two or three pictures. He said, at least 500 photographs and videos of the kingpin with the Deputy CM were available on social media and that cannot be a mere coincidence.

The MP Congress president asked why was the BJP protecting the Deputy CM when it had been established beyond any doubt that the kingpin was one of his (Deputy CM’s) closest associates.

He urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sack the Deputy CM. Otherwise, he observed, questions will be raised on the intentions of the BJP and the central government.

He said, the drug menace was already spreading across the country.

Quoting the government of India figures, he claimed that about 2 crore addicts were getting added every year to the total number. “While Prime Minister Narendra Modi could not fulfill the promise of creating two crore jobs every year, he managed to create two crore drug addicts in the country every year”, he remarked.

Patwari claimed that Madhya Pradesh was not being ruled by the BJP, but by different types of mafia, which included the “education mafia, the mining mafia, the liquor mafia and the drug mafia among others”.

He also showed a video before the press conference where a BJP legislator was allegedly seen prostrating before a police officer seeking protection against the criminal mafia. Another video showed a BJP corporator highlighting the menace of drugs prevailing in the state.
