Congress slams BJP for distorting Rahul Gandhi’s statement on ‘fighting Indian State’

New Delhi: The Congress party on Thursday defended the statement Rahul Gandhi made during the inauguration of the party headquarters. The party asserted that the statement made by the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha was ‘absolutely correct’.

What did Rahul Gandhi say?

Addressing the Congress leaders during the inauguration at Kotla Road here, the Congress leader has reportedly said that ‘the BJP and RSS have captured every single institution of our country, and the party is now fighting the BJP, the RSS and the Indian State itself.’

Supporting the statement, the Congress party reiterated its resolve to continue its fight against forces and institutions of the State, which were seized by the BJP and were being misused.

Congress slams BJP for distorting Rahul’s statement

Addressing a press conference here, senior party leader and former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel and chairman of the Media and Publicity Department Pawan Khera condemned the BJP leaders for misinterpreting and distorting what Gandhi said.

Referring to Gandhi’s speech, Baghel said that Article 12 of the Indian Constitution describes various institutions of the State, which are being misused by the BJP government. He said, these institutions like the ED, the IT and the CBI were being misused by the government and the Congress was fighting against their misuse.

He said, Rahul rightly mentioned that the Congress’ fight was not only against the BJP and the RSS, but also against these institutions of the State, which have been grabbed by the BJP and were now being misused by the government.

‘BJP, RSS never believed in democracy, justice and equality’

The former Chhattisgarh CM asserted that the Congress does not need any lessons on patriotism from the RSS and the BJP. He said that while people of the country were fighting for freedom, the RSS was corroborating with the British. He said these people were followers of Hitler and Mussolini and never believed in democracy, justice and equality. He observed that the BJP and the RSS do not accept disagreement or dissent and have always crushed dissent brutally.

‘Mohan Bhagwat statements are an insult to Indians’

He said, what RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said, that India did not get freedom on August 15, 1947, was an insult to the sacrifices of lakhs of Indians who fought against the British.

Baghel said, the RSS chief’s remarks are perfectly in tune with their strong opposition to the Constitution, which they want to change. He pointed out, it took 51 years for the RSS to accept and recognise the national Tricolour.

He reiterated that the Congress believes in the Constitution, democracy, justice and equality and whoever is against these, the party will keep on fighting against them.
