NEW DELHI: The Indian National Congress has announced a nationwide campaign demanding Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation for his derogatory remarks about Dr. BR Ambedkar. As part of the campaign, the Congress will hold press conferences across the country on December 22 and 23, followed by Ambedkar Samman Marches in all districts on December 24.
Addressing the media, Congress spokesperson and AICC Chairman for Media and Publicity, Pawan Khera, noted that neither Amit Shah, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, nor the BJP had expressed regret or remorse over Shah’s insulting remarks. He criticised their continued defense of the comments, calling it a blatant insult to Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy.
Khera added that all Congress MPs, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha members, along with CWC members, will hold press conferences in their respective constituencies, state headquarters, or district headquarters on December 22 or 23 to condemn the remarks and demand Shah’s resignation.
The Babasaheb Ambedkar Samman March, scheduled for December 24, will begin with the garlanding of Dr. Ambedkar’s statue in every district and conclude with the submission of a memorandum to the President of India through the respective District Collectors (DCs).
To mark 100 years since Mahatma Gandhi’s presidency at the Belgavi Congress Session in 1924, the party will hold an extended CWC meeting on December 26, followed by a large rally on December 27 in Belgavi, Karnataka.
Khera emphasised that Mahatma GandhiJi’s leadership transformed the freedom movement by introducing powerful ideas like ‘Swaraj’ and ‘Satyagraha,’ which became central to India’s independence struggle.
