"It has been a month since the chairman and the members of TSPSC submitted their resignations. I have written to the governor requesting her to accept the resignation. The Congress government is committed to filling the vacant job posts. The delay is being caused by waiting for the resignations to be accepted," said T Jeevan Reddy, a member of the Telangana Legislative Council.
In a written request to the Governor on January 9, he said, "To initiate the recruitment process and fulfil Congress' election promise of filling 2 lakh vacant posts, the resignation of the TSPSC members and chairman B Janardhan Reddy needs to be accepted."
*'Department can't function without members'*
Chairman B Janardhan Reddy and the members of TSPSC resigned on December 10, 2023. Janardhan Reddy visited chief minister A Revanth Reddy who had expressed his displeasure over the functioning of the TSPSC. After that, he tendered his resignation to the chief secretary Shanthi Kumari. The resignation was accepted by the chief secretary and was forwarded to the governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.
The Governor has not accepted the resignations so far. "As long as the resignations are not accepted, the department ceases functioning. Till the new members are appointed and the public service commission is made functional, the notification for jobs cannot be given," said Jeevan Reddy.
*Governor wants an investigation*
According to sources, the governor has not accepted the resignation to 'find out the actual reason for the delay in conducting the exams.' A source explained, "The governor was not in town when the resignation was forwarded. The governor believes that there must be a proper investigation into the delay and real culprits must not go scot-free."
However, it has been over a month and there is no response from the governor's office. To expedite the matters, Reddy said, "Once the new members are appointed the works on recruitment will begin."
*UPSC model to be adopted*
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is keen to restructure the Telangana State Public Service Commission. In a meeting with the UPSC chairperson Manoj Soni, efforts to create a transparent recruitment process were discussed. After the cancellation of exams, there has been a lot of bad will and the functioning of TSPSC has been questioned. Recruitment for jobs is an election promise of the Congress government and the leaders say they are are keen to start the process so that it can be fulfilled within a year.
