Secunderabad: A day after the Secunderabad fire mishap at a five-storey building on Ministers road in Nallagutta under the Ramgopalpet police station limits, Congress leaders blamed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for negligence.

A massive fire broke out on the ground floor of the Deccan Knitwear Sports Shop building and spread to the other floors on 19 January. It took firefighters 10 hours to douse the flames at the five-storey building. On 20 January, parts of the ground floor were still smoldering.

On Friday, senior Congress leader and former TPCC president V. Hanumantha Rao, Kisan Congress national vice-president Kondanda Reddy, and TPCC senior vice-president Niranjan visited the spot. They spoke to the rescue teams and inquired about the situation.

The Congress leaders blamed the municipal administration and urban development (MAUD) minister KTR for the disaster. They alleged that GHMC officials are getting commissions for the allowing construction of buildings without norms and regulations.

The leaders demanded the Telangana government give compensation to the neighboring residents whose apartments were damaged by the fire.
