Hyderabad: Telangana High Court on Friday quashed a criminal case registered against Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy in 2021.

The case related to allegedly disrupting a government programme.

Incident during Food Security Cards event

The incident occurred during the distribution of Food Security Cards at the SMR Convention Centre in Lakkaram village, Choutuppal mandal.

Then Minister Jagdish Reddy was addressing beneficiaries when Rajagopal Reddy allegedly approached the dais and snatched the microphone, leading to a clash between his supporters and BRS party workers.

FIR details

Based on a complaint lodged by the Choutuppal Tahsildar, police had registered an FIR (No. 321/2021) under IPC Sections 186, 353, 427, and 290 read with 34, alleging obstruction of public servants and causing nuisance.

Court observations

Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya, allowing the MLA’s petition, observed that there was no evidence to prove obstruction of any government official by Rajagopal Reddy. The court noted that no physical assault was reported, and there was no material to establish public nuisance.

Relief for MLA

The order effectively ends the criminal proceedings against Rajagopal Reddy, who had sought quashing of the case citing lack of evidence and political motivation behind the complaint.
