Do not obstruct the foundation: CM Revanth Reddy to BC leaders

Hyderabad: Leaders of Backward Class communities met chief minister Revanth Reddy to thank him for 42 percent reservation and CM Reddy appealed to them to not obstruct the process at the foundation stage.

The Telangana Assembly on March 17th passed two bills to provide 42 percent reservation for Backward Class communities in education, employment and political representation.

A section of Backward Class leaders have been objecting to the enumeration of data in the caste census. Member of the Legislative Assembly Teenmaar Mallanna was suspended from the Congress party for his anti-party activities against the caste census.

CM Revanth Reddy said, ā€œThe BC leaders will only be at the receiving end if they find fault in the caste survey. The caste survey has been done in a very transparent manner. The Congress government has taken every care to ensure that the policy stands correct on every occasion.ā€

Do not obstruct the foundation

CM Revanth Reddy told the BC leaders that they would meet injustice if they obstructed the process at the foundation stage.

Appealing to all BC leaders, he said, ā€œIt is for you to achieve your right while the Congress government stands with all BC communities.ā€

There are 200 BC associations in the state and he appealed to all of them to congratulate Congress leader Rahul Gandhi first.

ā€œDuring the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi clearly stated that a caste census will be conducted in the states where the Congress will come to power. Congress government has fulfilled the promise of conducting a caste survey,ā€ he said.

He further explained to the BC leaders that the census data should also get statutory status and only then will the quota be enhanced. For that reason, the state government conducted a caste survey.

Feb 4 social justice day

February 4th is a special day in the Telangana Assembly and for that reason it has been declared as Social Justice Day.

The government constituted a cabinet subcommittee and also dedicated a Backward Class commission to complete a caste survey within a timeframe.

Reddy says, ā€œCommission members went on the ground to check where the BC community was missing in the city. They have ensured that proper opportunities be provided for those who have not registered or missed participation in the first phase of the survey.ā€

Pride for Telangana

CM Revanth Reddy said, ā€œTelangana is leading the change and it is a matter of pride for us to be a part of this historic decision.ā€

He appealed to the BC leaders that the fraternity must work towards making their people understand this. The government has done this for the BC community and they will lose their rights if they find fault with it.

ā€œThe government has not only prepared a document but also enacted a law for the BC quota.ā€

Census and caste survey

The census takes the count of the population in the state. A caste survey has been done on the different castes that are in the population of the state.

Reddy says, ā€œCaste enumeration has never been done in the census. If caste enumeration is included in the census, the correct count will be found. The Mandal Commission concluded that the BCs constituted 52 percent. The caste survey said it was 56.36 percent."

He asked the BC leaders to explain to the people not to get confused between the census and the caste survey.

Support the BC

The Congress government postponed the local body elections to ascertain the BC population. The Congress party is supporting the BCā€™s and, for that reason, most of the PCC Presidentā€™s in the Congress party are from the community.

The Congress government has taken this huge step despite the problems created for them during and after the survey. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy explained that he will go along with floor leaders to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get the centreā€™s nod for these laws in Telangana.
