We vibe at a different level and I think we need to do that. Together, we are brilliant minds. All we need is some courage, some dedication,” said BRS party leader and MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha
She was speaking at St. Francis College’s inaugural ceremony of the ‘Mediasphere’ festival. Addressing the students, Kavitha said, “Don’t let anyone decide how to dress, what to eat, what to think, and what to do.” Kavitha, the daughter of Telangana CM KCR, slammed those who are intimidating women and called them “goons.” She said, “The goons believe they can intimidate a woman by targeting them, abusing them, and using violence. I salute women journalists across the globe who have stood the test of time, who stood by their beliefs and made a name for themselves.”
She added, “Girls should stand up, take time and think about themselves because today, in this country, there are a lot of goons who tell you don’t dress like this, don’t talk like this…I say don’t listen to them, listen to yourself.”
‘I’ve faced my own share of difficulties’
During her interaction, Kavitha shared her personal experience as a woman politician with the students. She said, “As a woman politician, I’ve faced my own share of difficulties…I may be KCR’s daughter but then you will have to fight your own battles at every stage. I’m fighting mine. I’m still fighting mine and I will keep fighting.” In her address, the former MP discussed her relations with her female colleagues and said, “I believe in communicating with every women politician irrespective of their political affiliations. We vibe at a different level and I think we need to do that. Together, we are brilliant minds. All we need is some courage, some dedication.”
The BRS leader further said, “Journalists across the world, especially women journalists, are being harassed for their reports. It is easy to target women.”
‘Women must empower women’
She urged the students to never stop dreaming but to ensure that they are truthful and committed to the larger good of society and especially women. She told budding women journalists and filmmakers, “It is not an easy profession but this is a profession that can help millions and millions of women if you do it right and with all your heart.”
On the need to build a strong network, she said, “I believe women today globally need to have a brilliant network.” While encouraging women to stand up for women, MLC Kavitha said, “Any woman who can help another woman is the most powerful woman in this world. She doesn’t have to be powerful herself but she can enable and empower someone else.”
