Hyderabad: Among the 1,122 candidates in the fray for the GHMC elections, a significant number of representatives from recognised parties hold a robust political background. From Bonthu Sridevi, the spouse of current Hyderabad Mayor who is contesting from Cherlapally division to Rajya Sabha Parliamentarian K. Keshav Rao's daughter Gadwala Vijayalakshmi facing elections in Banjara Hills.

Not to forget, former Hyderabad Mayor and AIMIM leader Majid Hussain has been given a ticket for the Mehdipatnam division.

According to the list of contesting candidates, the TRS party has retained a majority of the corporators and given them tickets to re-contest.

P. Janardhan Reddy's daughter Vijaya Reddy is once again contesting from Khairatabad, while Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Sayanna's daughter is contesting from Kavadiguda. Uppal MLA Beti Subhash Reddy who faced the ire of flood-affected families has positioned his wife in the Habsiguda division.

It is pertinent to mention that 50 per cent of the seats, that is 75 seats, in the GHMC polls has been reserved for women this year. The TRS is contesting in 150 seats, BJP in 149, Congress 146, TDP 51, and CPI 12.

Speaking to NewsMeter, Banjara Hills ward candidate G. Vijayalakshmi, whose name had made rounds as the Mayor in the last election, said, "Picking a Mayor would entirely depend on the party chief. No one is in the race for now. TRS is contesting the elections based on the robust development over a span of six years. From flyovers to Basthi Dawakana, the Telangana government has served the people."

Meanwhile, the extended family members of many politicians have also been given a ticket in the municipal polls. Late Telangana Home minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy's son-in-law Srinivas Reddy is contesting from Ram Nagar for the second time. Former Hyderabad Mayor Teegala Krishna Reddy's relative Susarita has been given a ticket from Musarambagh, while Vijaya Santhi, the daughter-in-law of former MLA from Malkajgiri late Kanaka Reddy, is once against contesting from Alwal.

From Rajendra Nagar division, B. Divya whose brother is a state secretary for Congress and whose grandfather was three times MP has been given a ticket. TRS MLA Prakash Goud's brother Prem Das Goud is contesting from Mailardevpally.
