Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday asserted that Amaravati’s status as the capital of Andhra Pradesh is now irrevocably secured, following the passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in Parliament.

He said the Centre’s ‘sovereign seal’ has put an end to all uncertainty surrounding the capital city.

‘No one can alter Amaravati’s status’

Addressing a press conference, CM Naidu said that despite what he described as ‘conspiracies’ by the opposition YSR Congress Party, Amaravati has emerged as the undisputed capital with nationwide backing.

He emphasised that once the Central government has formally endorsed the decision, there is no scope for reversal in the future.

“The entire country stands behind Amaravati today. Overcoming all conspiracies, Amaravati has emerged victorious. With the Centre’s sovereign seal, the aspirations of five crore people have been fulfilled. No one will be able to change this in the future,” he said.

Broad political support in Parliament

Highlighting the significance of the legislation, the Chief Minister noted that leaders across political lines supported the Bill in both Houses of Parliament.

According to him, nearly 50 parties in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, despite ideological differences and having no direct stake in Andhra Pradesh’s capital issue, backed the move in the larger national interest.

“They supported the Amaravati Bill to safeguard the country’s interests, setting aside differences,” CM Naidu said.

‘Opposition doesn’t understand national priorities’

CM Naidu accused the YSRCP of attempting to derail Amaravati’s development and lacking commitment to the State’s progress.

He alleged that the Opposition neither understands national priorities nor supports Andhra Pradesh’s growth trajectory.

Gratitude to Centre’s leadership

The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for facilitating the passage of the legislation.

The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which formally designates Amaravati as the capital, was cleared by the Rajya Sabha on Thursday after being passed in the Lok Sabha on April 1.

‘A defining moment for Andhra Pradesh’

CM Naidu described the development as a historic milestone, stating that Amaravati’s recognition marks the culmination of long-standing aspirations of the people of Andhra Pradesh.

He reiterated that the government will now focus on accelerating development and building Amaravati into a world-class capital city.
