‘Focus on governance now’: CM Revanth urges party leaders to look ahead, not back at BRS

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday presided over the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting at the Legislative Conference Hall, laying down a rigorous strategic roadmap for the upcoming Assembly sessions and the party’s future governance.

Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud, the Chief Minister signalled a shift in tone, moving away from past grievances of Bharat Rashtra Samithi towards a future-focused people’s administration.

‘Focus on what people need’

Addressing the gathering of Ministers, MLAs and MLCs, CM Reddy emphasised that the time for discussing the failures of the previous BRS regime has concluded. Instead, he pointed to the Governor’s address as the definitive roadmap for the government.

“This is our government,” CM Revanth stated. “The roadmap we formulate now will serve as our primary agenda for the upcoming elections. We must focus entirely on what we intend to deliver to the people.”

Key directives for legislators

The Chief Minister issued a series of strict guidelines to ensure the House operates with maximum efficiency:

1. Discipline and Attendance: Reddy warned against negligence, insisting on full attendance throughout the session.

2. Empowering Women Legislators: He made a specific call for women members to go beyond mere attendance, urging them to lead and actively participate in House debates.

3. Unified Voice: Members were instructed to align every response with the official stance of both the party and the government to maintain systemic integrity.

4. Coordination: Whips have been tasked with overseeing topic selection to prevent discussions from being sidetracked or wasting legislative time.

Reflecting on his time in the opposition, CM Revanth recalled being suspended for an entire session and noted that senior leaders like Bhatti Vikramarka were often denied the floor. He urged his party to uphold the integrity of the system they now lead.

The drinking water challenge

With the summer season approaching, the Chief Minister placed a heavy emphasis on the drinking water crisis.

He directed legislators to prioritise water management and infrastructure to ensure no constituency faces a shortage. This issue is expected to be a focal point of the government’s immediate performance metrics.

‘99-Day People’s Administration’

The meeting concluded with a mandate to take the ‘99-Day People’s Administration – Progress Plan’ to the grassroots level. To broaden their administrative perspective, the CM also encouraged MLAs and MLCs to tour other states to study diverse policy models and specific regional issues.

“One’s survival in politics depends entirely on upholding and preserving the integrity of the system,” CM Revanth concluded, framing the upcoming budget—the third under this government—as a pivotal moment for the state’s development.
