Hyderabad: Hyderabad city police registered two cases against BJP state president Bandi Sanjay and AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi for `hate speeches'.

The two leaders were booked under section 505 of the IPC, for their derogatory remarks on former Prime Minister PV Narsimha Rao and former Chief Minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh NT Rama Rao.

Station House Officer SR Nagar Police station K Saidulu said a case has been registered against the duo for their comments during election rallies three days ago.

"After verifying the speech by the leaders, we have taken a suo moto notice against leaders under section 505 of IPC," said K Saidulu, SHO, SR Nagar.

The leaders had made comments against former Prime Minister and former Chief Minister while addressing election rallies at Erragadda. The statements, police sources said, have the potential to trigger enmity. Further investigation is underway.

Addressing an election rally on Wednesday, Akbaruddin Owaisi had challenged TRS to destroy PV Ghat and NTR Ghat before targeting poor people in the name of clearing encroachments around lakes in the city.

In response to this statement, Bandi Sanjay Kumar said they would destroy AIMIM party headquarters within two hours. " I challenge you. If you can do that, we will destroy Darussalam (AIMIM party headquarters) within two hours", he said.

Police are analyzing the videos of both the leaders. Earlier DGP M Mahender Reddy had also mentioned that the speeches of both the leaders are under scanner. He warned of strict action against anyone who indulges in hate speeches or circulates hate content.
