GHMC polls result shocker: New faces make it to club

Hyderabad: GHMC election results have had many hits and misses with some hopeful candidates tasting defeat.

In many such divisions, the margin was so narrow that they slipped into a shock.

Uppal MLA Bethi Subash Reddy's wife Bethi Swapna, who contested from the Habisguda division, lost the election. Likewise, Musheerabad MLA Muta Gopal's close relative Muta Padma, who contested from Gandhi Nagar division also lost.

Surprisingly, TRS MLC and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's daughter Kavitha Kalvakuntla campaigned on behalf of Padma, but could not help her win the election.

G Hemalatha Reddy of Adikmet also lost the election. It is despite Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud campaigning for her. At least four sitting corporators including those from Ameerpet, Monda Market, who are very close followers of Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, could not sail through.

V Srinivas Reddy, son in law of late former Home Minister Nayini Narsimha Reddy also lost in the election. Srinivas Reddy had tried hard to get a party ticket for Musheerabad during the assembly election in 2018, but the party chose Muta Gopal. Eventually, Gopal won. Strangely, all these candidates have lost to BJP candidates.

However, some candidates made it comfortably. One among them was Mayor Bonthu Rammohan's wife Bonthu Sridevi, who contested from Cherlapally division, replacing Rammohan. She had an easy win over her opponents.

Others who made it to the league are Gadwala Vijayalaxmi, daughter of TRS Secretary-General and Rajya Sabha member K Keshava Rao, who won from Banjara Hills and P Vijaya Reddy, daughter of former Congress leader P Janardhan Reddy, who won from Khairatabad.

In what came as a surprise is Congress won from A.S Rao Nagar ward. The Husband of newly elected congress candidate Shirisha Reddy is well appreciated by voters because of his timely help during the lockdown. The man reportedly sold his property to help the poor. The couple during the lockdown period distributed groceries and vegetables in the ward.
