Hyderabad: On Thursday, the Telangana High Court directed the Kagaznagar Police not to arrest Dr RS Praveen Kumar until further orders in a crime registered against him and his followers at the Kagaznagar Police Station on November 13 during election campaigning.
A Single Bench of Justice K Surender was hearing the criminal petition filed by Dr Praveen, president of Bahujan Samajwadi Party of Telangana State, seeking a direction to stay all further proceedings in the case registered in PS Kagaznagar Town, Komaram Bheem Asifabad district and quash the proceedings against him.
There was an altercation between Dr Praveen, his followers and the followers of BRS party leader and MLA candidate Sirpur T, Kagaznagar constituency Koneru Konappa while returning from filing nomination papers with the returning officer.
The counsel for the petitioner Dr Praveen informed the court that the police have registered a case against him and his followers due to the political pressure and there is no evidence to show that the de-facto complainant and his men were hit and cash was snatched from them.
The counsel informed the judge that the case was registered against Dr Praveen and his five followers in Kagaznagar police station under sections 395, 307, 427, 171-F read with 34 IPC for attacking the followers of the BRS party leader.
