Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court, on Friday, dismissed a petition seeking orders to the election commission to reject the nomination of V Srinivas Goud, MLA and minister of the BRS government, for the ensuing Telangana State Assembly elections.

The petitioner, Chaluvagali Raghavendra Raju, informed the Division Bench, comprising of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice NV Shravan Kumar, that the returning officer of Mahabubnagar district didn’t respond to the objections raised by him regarding the affidavit filed by Srinivas Goud.

Raghavendra Raju said that he had submitted multiple objections to the election affidavit filed by Srinivas Goud, stating that the MLA and minister have suppressed information about an FIR (241/2023) registered against him in II Town PS in Mahbubnagar for alleged tampering with the election affidavit during 2018 elections. He also highlighted the notice issued by the Supreme Court to the MLA in a civil appeal.

Avinash Desai, the standing counsel for the Election Commission of India (ECI), informed the court that the returning officer/RDO of Mahabubnagar had already replied to the objections of the petitioner in an order dated November 13.

Avinash Desai also handed over a copy of the order given by the returning officer to the counsel for the petitioner. After hearing the contentions of the standing counsel for the ECI, the counsel for the petitioner intended to withdraw the writ petition.

The Chief Justice Bench, after hearing the contentions of the counsel for the petitioner and the standing counsel for the ECI, dismissed the writ petition after it was withdrawn.
