Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday asked the state election officials to give reasons for not allotting a common symbol to the Telangana Yuva Shakti Party, even after the party made a representation.
The Division Bench was adjudicating a writ petition filed by Telangana Yuva Shakti Party, represented by its president advocate B Ram Mohan Reddy, seeking a direction to the ECI to allot a common symbol.
The petitioner, while arguing the case as the party in person, informed the court that it is a registered political party, registered in 2018, though unrecognised, has made a representation to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on October 20, 2023, to allot a common symbol to contest the ensuing elections.
However, the ECI has not yet allotted a common symbol, rather the ECI has rejected the petitionerās plea without assigning any reason and sought a direction to the ECI to allot a common symbol so that his party, which is an upcoming party in the state, can contest ensuing elections and other elections in the near future.
After hearing the arguments, the Telangana High Court Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice NV Sravan Kumar on Tuesday, issued notices to the chief election commissioner and the secretary of State Election Commission, Telangana.
