New Delhi: How can Electronic Voting Machines show 90-99% charge when they were in use for hours?
Congress leaders are raising EVM manipulation issue to strengthen their narrative about result engineering in Haryana polls. The leaders have also raised this issue with the Election Commission of India
Haryana Congress president Udai Bhan said Electronic Voting Machines were found to be charged up to 90-99 percent even after hours of use. He said all such EVMs showed the BJP winning while those machines with less battery charge after hours of use showed the BJP losing.
Machines charge to 99 percent
The machines that had 99 percent charge were noted even during the Lok Sabha elections and a hue and cry was raised. Despite a hue and cry being raised by the Congress workers and leaders, in some places, the returning officers were not willing to listen, explained Congress sources.
Booth-level management became a challenge
With so many machines showing such high charge, the Congress workers at the booth level were taken aback. They were stopping the counting and raising complaints.
20 constituencies complaints
So far, there are 20 constituencies from where the complaints have been received. Pawan Khera, media and publicity department of Congress says, "The Election Commission was handed over written complaints from seven constituencies while the remaining complaints will be submitted in another two days."
Khera said, the party delegation strongly asserted that all these machines which are under question, must be sealed properly till the completion of the inquiry.
Haryana results unexpected
Speaking on the occasion, Bhupinder Singh Hooda maintained that the election results in Haryana were totally unexpected and surprising. He said the Election Commission had assured the delegation to look into the complaints.
ECI to take feedback from ROs
The Congress leaders said that they have been assured by the Election Commission that it will look into the matter and reply to the party on all the issues after taking the feedback from the concerned Returning Officers.
A senior Congress leader alleged, "Returning officers in these constituencies were not cooperative. They were hand-in-glove with the BJP. We are following the process but are not sure if ECI will take action. The fact that EVM had 99 percent batteries after use needs to be investigated. We are stressing on that aspect."
