Hyderabad: Hyderabad District Congress Committee (DCC) president Mohammed Waliullah Sameer on Thursday demanded the immediate dismissal of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his recent remarks on Dr BR Ambedkar, terming the comments as an insult to the architect of the Indian Constitution and the democratic values it represents.
Waliullah Sameer, who led a sit-in-protest organised by the Hyderabad DCC at Bada Bazar, Yakutpura, in the Old City on Thursday, accused Amit Shah of lowering the legacy of Dr Ambedkar by his alleged derogatory utterances. He described Amit Shah's remarks as an attempt to blur the principles enshrined in the Constitution.
‘BJP promoting regressive ideas’
Speaking to the media, Waliullah Sameer maintained that this act of the BJP shows some intentional agenda towards downgrading the contributions of Dr Ambedkar while promoting some regressive ideas. "Dr Ambedkar gifted us with a Constitution that protects justice, equality and dignity for all, most importantly, the marginalised ones. While saying such remarks, Amit Shah has not only insulted Dr Ambedkar but has also disrespected the whole country that worships these ideas," he said.
Waliullah Sameer further alleged that the BJP was trying to replace the ideals of the Constitution with those that were in tune with Manusmriti, which he described as fundamentally opposed to the vision of equality and social justice that Dr Ambedkar championed.
He said the Congress party would not rest until action is taken against Amit Shah. "Insulting Dr Ambedkar is equivalent to insulting the soul of India. The Congress will fight tirelessly to ensure that Amit Shah is held accountable for his words and is removed from office," he said, adding that the remarks had hurt the sentiments of millions of Indians who revere Dr Ambedkar's legacy.
Dr Ambedkar's contributions laid the foundation for a democratic and inclusive India
Underlining the transformative role of the Constitution, Waliullah Sameer said that it has empowered marginalised communities to assert their rights and live with dignity. "Dr. Ambedkar's contributions laid the foundation for a democratic and inclusive India. Any attempt to undermine his legacy is a direct attack on our nation's ethos," he said.
Congress workers carried placards and raised slogans condemning the Union Home Minister. Waliullah Sameer declared that the Hyderabad DCC would continue to hold protests until Amit Shah is removed from the Union Cabinet.
