Hyderabad: Court issues NBW against MoS Home Bandi Sanjay in poll code violation case

Hyderabad: Special Court, Nampally issues non-bailable warrant against MoS Home Bandi Sanjay for election code violation

Hyderabad: Special Court for legislators at Nampally on Thursday issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay for failing to comply with repeated court summons.

The warrant was issued in connection with an election code violation case registered during the 2021 Huzurabad by-poll. Etala won the seat.

Huzurabad police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Bandi Sanjay and others in 2021, and a charge sheet was filed in 2023. The case is now at the examination stage, where the accused is required to be present for questioning.

Despite several opportunities and prior warnings from the court regarding compulsory attendance, Sanjay failed to attend the last two scheduled hearings.

Sanjay’s counsel, Karuna Sagar, argued that the Minister’s absence was due to his participation in the ongoing Parliamentary session. However, the presiding judge took a serious view of the continued non-appearance and ordered the NBW.

The case has been adjourned to July 30 for further proceedings.
