Hyderabad MP Owaisi, AIMMM, Telangana Waqf Board hail SC’s interim order on Waqf Act

Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, All India Muslim Majlis e Mushawarat (AIMMM) and Telangana Waqf Board have welcomed the interim order of the Supreme Court on the Waqf Act.

Owaisi demands BJP prove its claims with data

AIMIM President and MP Asaduddin Owaisi expressed his hope that the Supreme Court will soon deliver a final judgment on the Waqf Act, calling the current decision an interim order.

He criticised the PM Modi government’s act, alleging it doesn’t protect Waqf properties and will instead encourage encroachments.

He demanded that the BJP government provide data on the number of people who have given their property to the Waqf after converting to Islam.

Owaisi accuses Centre of weakening Waqf board

The AIMIM chief raised concerns about Section 3D of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Act, claiming it was introduced by the Speaker while a debate was still in progress.

Owaisi also argued that appointing non-Muslims as Waqf board members violates Article 26 of the Constitution, which deals with the freedom to manage religious affairs. He accused the government of trying to weaken the Waqf board and prevent the protection of its properties.

AIMMM welcomes the SC order

Navaid Hamid, the working president of the All India Muslim Majlis e Mushawarat (AIMMM), welcomed the Supreme Court’s interim order on the Waqf Amendment Act.

He called the decision a decisive blow to the unconstitutional provisions of the act, which he claims the PM Modi government enacted under the pretence of a Parliamentary majority.

Hamid calls out CM Chandrababu Naidu

Hamid also used the judgment as a reminder to the BJP’s regional allies, specifically Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, that supporting what he considers unconstitutional moves by the BJP will lead to political embarrassment.

He criticised ‘Muslim faces’ who had previously celebrated the act, stating that the Supreme Court’s order has exposed their lack of wisdom.

Hamid concluded by saying the judgment vindicates the Muslim community's stance that any reforms to Waqf provisions must be based on mutual consultation with stakeholders and be in accordance with the constitutional rights of minorities.
