Hyderabad: Police have registered an FIR after AIMIM workers allegedly threatened Dr. Lubna Sarwath, an independent candidate contesting from ward no. 72, Asifnagar.

This followed the directive by Telangana State Election Commission to Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, asking him to inquire into the allegation of Sarwath.

Dr. Lubna Sarwath, an activist, was doing a door to door campaign and distributing pamphlets on Wednesday evening when she was allegedly threatened by the AIMIM workers.

"I and my team of 5 people had to return home after abruptly suspending our campaign. They were following us everywhere," said Lubna Sarwath.

After the incident, she lodged a written complaint in Asifnagar police station.

Later she approached Election Commission. The commission asked the Commissioner of Police to inquire into the incident.

She said FIR has been registered and SEC has written to the police commissioner to inquire and take action. "The inquiry should be time-bound. In spite of glaring evidence, the person is out. Justice should not be delayed," said Lubna.

She also referred to CM's remarks that 'anti-social' elements will be crushed with an iron hand. "I am awaiting action from the CM. My team is shaken," said Lubna Sarwath.

Lubna Sarwath is a well-known activist in the city. Through `Save Our Urban Lake', she has highlighted the issue of encroachments around the city. She has filed cases in Telangana High court regarding the encroachments.

Her poll plank includes the right to food, anti-encroachment, people's participation in local governance.
