Hyderabad: Transgenders stage protest against Y.S. Sharmila, seek apology

Hyderabad: Transgenders staged a protest against YSR Telangana Party president Y.S. Sharmila for likening their work to "khojjas", a derogatory term used for third genders. Sharmila made the comments in mehabobabad. The transgender community staged a protest near Ameerpet metro station against Sharmila.

Around 30 members of the Telangana Transgender Committee's Hyderabad branch participated in the protest. They raised slogans against Sharmila for her insensitive comments. Transgender representative Sonarathode said Sharmila's comments were intended to humiliate their community and demanded an immediate apology. Sonarathode also warned that they would block Sharmila's padayatras across the state if an apology was not issued.
