Guntur: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has alleged that farmers in Andhra Pradesh are upset because they are not receiving adequate prices for their produce under the TDP-led government.
Speaking to the media after meeting with chilli farmers at Guntur Mirchi Yard on Wednesday, the former chief minister remarked that no crop—whether black gram, green gram, tomato, cotton or others—is generating the minimum support price for farmers.
“Farmers across the State are not receiving minimum support prices for any product, whether it is black gram, green gram, tomato, cotton, or any other commodity. This issue is evident in the State,” Jagan said.
Blaming the State government for the farmers’ suffering, Jagan accused chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu of ‘selling’ farmers to middlemen. Naidu’s regime has become a ‘curse’ for farmers, he said and recalled how the previous YSRCP government had helped them through its Rythu Bharosa Kendra (RBKs) initiative.
‘Lapses in security cover for Jagan’
The opposition leader also slammed the TDP-led government for ‘reversing’ all the farmer-benefiting measures he had enacted. He also claimed that CM Naidu was neglecting chilli producers, leaving them unable to sell their produce even at a minimum price.
Several supporters and party activists turned up to attend Reddy’s visit to Guntur Mirchi Yard. Meanwhile, YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu alleged that there were serious lapses in providing security to Jagan during his visit to Guntur.
Former Minister Sake Sailajanath has criticized the state government for its failure to ensure adequate security for YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, despite his Z+ category protection.
Highlighting YS Jagan’s enduring popularity and massive public support, Sailajanath questioned why the government views his visits to farmers as an issue.
Sailajanath also criticized Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for neglecting farmers’ welfare and focusing on divisive politics. He accused Naidu of halting development, obstructing medical colleges, and ignoring the plight of farmers, particularly in Rayalaseema.
He further pointed out lapses in governance, including inadequate supplies in government hospitals and police inefficiency, as noted recently by the High Court.
Sailajanath also urged Naidu to prioritize public welfare over political vendettas, emphasizing that governance should focus on development and honest leadership.
