Jubilee Hills bypoll: Congress defeat will force govt to fulfil 2023 poll promises, says KTR

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Tuesday described the upcoming Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election as a defining moment for Telangana’s political landscape.

He asserted that a Congress defeat in this bypoll would compel the ruling party to finally fulfil the promises it made during the 2023 elections.

‘Bypoll is a verdict on governance’

Addressing party leaders and workers at Telangana Bhavan before BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha Gopinath filed her nomination papers, KTR said the contest was not between two individuals but between two contrasting models of governance.

“This by-election is not about personalities. It is a battle between a decade of progress under BRS and two years of chaos under Congress rule. More importantly, it is an opportunity for the people to make the Congress realise its betrayal of public trust,” he said.

KTR asserted that a victory for Sunitha Gopinath would send a strong message to the government.

“If the Congress loses Jubilee Hills, it will be forced to deliver what it promised, the Rs 2,500 monthly assistance for women, settlement of farmers’ dues, and job opportunities for youth,” he added.

‘Women, farmers and youth await relief’

The BRS leader said that 1.67 crore women in Telangana who were promised financial assistance are now pinning their hopes on this bypoll.

“Women, farmers, and unemployed youth who were deceived by false assurances are all looking at Jubilee Hills as their voice for justice. A BRS win will remind the Congress that governance is about accountability, not excuses,” KTR remarked.

‘Congress has stalled Hyderabad’s growth’

Coming down heavily on the Congress regime, KTR accused it of derailing Hyderabad’s development.

“Under BRS, the city saw one lakh double-bedroom houses, Basti Dawakhanas and free drinking water supply for the poor. Under Congress, the same families have seen their houses demolished, clinics closed, and services disrupted. Congress hasn’t built even a single house in Hyderabad,” he said.

He added that BRS’s decade-long governance under K Chandrashekar Rao had transformed Hyderabad into a global city, while the current government’s inaction was undoing that progress.

‘Marginalised communities betrayed’

KTR appealed to minorities, Backward Classes and Dalits to stand up against what he called Congress’s repeated betrayal.

“Minorities were humiliated and denied representation. BCs were misled with fake promises of reservations. Dalits were cheated through the misuse of Dalit Bandhu and Abhayahastam. Every section of society has reason to hold the Congress accountable in this bypoll,” he said.

‘Jubilee Hills will mark BRS’s resurgence’

Describing the by-election as a launchpad for the party’s revival, KTR said, “The pink wave that once transformed Telangana will begin again from Jubilee Hills. Sunitha Gopinath is receiving overwhelming support from across communities. This election will mark the beginning of BRS’s resurgence under the leadership of K Chandrashekar Rao.”

Appealing to voters, he said, “Every vote for Sunitha is not just for BRS, it’s a message to stop Congress’s arrogance and make it work for the people.”

‘Carrying forward Gopinath’s legacy’

Paying tribute to the late Maganti Gopinath, the former MLA, KTR said he had played a pivotal role in strengthening the party in Hyderabad.

“After his untimely demise, our president, KCR garu, decided to field his wife, Sunitha Gopinath, as the BRS candidate to continue his legacy. All senior leaders have been directed to extend full support to her campaign,” he said.

“With the blessings of our leadership and the goodwill of the people, Sunitha will secure a resounding victory — one that will awaken the conscience of this negligent Congress government,” KTR concluded.

Maganti Sunitha files nomination

Earlier in the day, Maganti Sunitha Gopinath filed her first set of nomination papers for the 61-Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election in the presence of senior leaders Talasani Srinivas Yadav (MLA), Padma Rao (MLA), Raula Sridhar Reddy (Ex-Chairman), and Corporator Dedeepya Rao.

For her second set of nominations, she was accompanied by KTR, Vishnuvardhan Reddy (former MLA), Rajkumar Patel (Corporator), and Sameena Yasmin, BRS leader and wife of the late Sardar.
