Hyderabad: In the context of the Jubilee Hills bye-election, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has written to the ECI, requesting action on MoS for Home Affairs and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay, alleging that the minister made ‘grave violations’ of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) while campaigning in the Borabanda Division on November 6.

In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Gyanesh Kumar, the TPCC claimed that Bandi Sanjay made derogatory comments on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, appealed for votes in the name of religion and encouraged voters to take money for votes.

The panel detailed their complaints as follows:

1. Derogatory comments on CM Revanth Reddy: Bandi Sanjay used abusive language against CM Revanth, breaching MCC.

2. Appeal to vote on religion: In his speech, Bandi Sanjay told the voters many times that Hindus must vote for the BJP only, and Muslims can vote for Congress or other parties. This violates MCC (prohibiting appeals to caste/religion) and Section 123(3) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

3. Bribing voters via inducement: Bandi Sanjay encouraged voters to accept Rs 20,000 per vote from other parties but vote in favour of the BJP, violating MCC (prohibiting inducements) and Section 123(1)(A) of RPA, 1951 (bribery).

The TPCC requested immediate action from the ECI. They demanded that ECI issue a notice to Bandi Sanjay to restrain him from campaigning in the Jubilee Hills bye-election. It also requested ECI to deploy observers and videography teams to capture evidence of such actions in Jubilee Hills.

“Bandi Sanjay Kumar has to be sacked for being a MoS for Home Affairs and yet making such statements, for provoking voters and seeking votes on a religious basis. There is a chance of such comments creating anarchy and communal disturbance,” the TPCC said in the letter.

It also provided video links and an alleged transcript of Bandi Sanjay’s speech as proof of claims.
