Jubilee Hills bypoll: TPCC writes to EC over alleged voter slip violations, intimidation by BRS leaders

Hyderabad: Ahead of the Jubilee Hills by-election, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has complained to the Election Commission that Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is violating election protocol.

In a letter to the district electoral officer, the committee on Tuesday accused former MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy from BRS of threatening to set fire to a Congress campaign vehicle. The committee also alleged that the Opposition party is distributing unofficial voter information slips in the constituency with the photo and details of the BRS candidate.

Complaint against Peddi Sudarshan Reddy

In the letter to the DEO RV Karnan, the TPCC claimed that they have a video that showed the former MLA breaking election laws.

The letter alleged that the former Narsampet BRS MLA, while campaigning on October 26, at LN Nagar, Krishna Nagar, along with BRS leaders such as Faheem, Bhaskar, Nagaraju and others, threatened M Ramesh, the driver of a Congress canvassing vehicle.

He allegedly warned the driver that he would set the vehicle on fire if it was seen again in the area. The TPCC claimed that the incident was caught on video and has gone viral on social media.

“This incident has created tension and fear among the party workers and the public. With utmost seriousness, we request you to take immediate action against former MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy and others for their actions, which are in clear violation of the Model Code of Conduct,” the letter to the DEO said.

The TPCC also asked the Election Commission to ensure the safety and security of the Congress canvassing team and party workers.

Alleged distribution of voter information slips with BRS candidate photo and details

In another representation, the TPCC alleged that BRS party leaders are going door-to-door with portable printers and distributing unofficial voter information slips in the Jubilee Hills areas with the image and details of the party candidate on them.

“This act is a clear violation of the MCC and election laws. We request you to look into this matter urgently and take necessary action to ensure free and fair elections,” the TPCC said.

The committee also shared photos allegedly showing the distribution of the said cards to prove their claim.
