Kavitha demands caste census info at panchayat level before Telangana local body polls
Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha has called on the Congress government to release the caste census details for every gram panchayat before announcing the dates for the upcoming local body elections.
Her demand, made via a post on social media platform X, alleges that the government is conspiring to finalise Backward Classes (BC) reservations without full transparency, potentially to gain a political advantage.
‘Congress using reservations to gain political points’
Kavitha accused the ruling Congress of attempting to set reservations in areas that are politically favourable to them. “If they hurriedly conduct elections to gain political advantage, it would be an injustice to the BCs,” she said.
The caste census details should be disclosed for each gram panchayat," she stated. She stressed that the government must demonstrate its sincerity by making these details public.
Kavitha emphasised that Telangana Jagruthi has consistently advocated for increased reservations for BCs and will continue its efforts to ensure fair representation.
Recent political moves and festival celebrations
This demand comes shortly after Kavitha’s resignation from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) earlier this month, following her suspension by party president and father, K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), for alleged anti-party activities.
Despite her recent political upheaval, Kavitha remains active with Telangana Jagruthi. She is scheduled to visit Mancherial district to participate in the ongoing Bathukamma celebrations. On Monday, she joined the festival at the Telangana Jagruthi office in Hyderabad.
Bathukamma, the state festival of Telangana, is a nine-day celebration of nature and culture where women and girls sing and dance around arrangements of flowers, which are later immersed in local ponds. Since the formation of Telangana in 2014, Bathukamma has been officially recognised as a state festival.
