Hyderabad: TRS working president and MAUD minister K.T Rama Rao alleged that BJP's Munugode candidate Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy joined BJP in return for the Rs. 18,000 crore worth contracts given by the Centre to his company. KTR made this allegation on Twitter on Friday.

Earlier, while speaking to a regional channel, Komatireddy had said his company Sushee Infra and Mining Limited (SIML) had received mining contracts worth Rs. 18,000 crores from the Union government six months ago.

In response, KTR said the former Congress MLA had joined BJP in return for the same. "Quid pro Quo-open confession of the BJP MLA candidate from Munugode. His company gets a massive Rs. 18,000 crore contract from and in return, he joins BJP."

KTR also added that his brother, Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, might follow in his footsteps.

In response to KTR, Komatireddy challenged him to prove the allegation in 24 hours. "It's time to call spade a spade. I openly challenge Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao. I am giving you 24 hours time. Either you prove the allegation levelled against me about the quid-pro-quo nexus or be ready to face defamation," he said.

Komatireddy also said that contracts worth Rs.1,800 crores came in recently, around six months ago but that he had been telling about joining BJP since three years ago.

The tussle between the two leaders comes in the wake of the upcoming Munugode by-election, to be held on 3 November. The by-election was necessitated by the resignation of MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy on 8 August. He quit the Congress party and joined the BJP.

On Saturday, the BJP formally announced former Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy as its candidate. TRS is fielding former MLA and constituency in charge Koosukuntla Prabhakar Reddy while the Congress has named Palvai Sravanthi as its candidate for the by-poll. To take on the Reddys, the Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) is fielding Andoju Shankara Chary from the BC community.
