KTR: BRS will back VP candidate only if Telangana gets 2 lakh MT urea by Sept 9

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Wednesday declared that his party would extend support in the upcoming Vice-Presidential election only to the party that ensures the supply of 2 lakh metric tonnes of urea to Telangana before September 9.

“No party has approached us yet. But our decision will be based solely on farmers’ interests. If the Congress Chief Minister nominates a candidate, we will oppose without hesitation,” KTR said.

‘Congress did not nominate BC leader’

He also accused the Congress of failing to uphold social justice, questioning why the party did not nominate a BC leader for the Vice Presidential post despite its claims of championing backward classes.

Artificial urea scarcity blamed on Congress

Turning his focus on the ongoing fertiliser crisis, KTR alleged that the shortage was an ‘artificial scarcity created by Congress misrule.’

He said Congress leaders were diverting urea stocks and selling them in the black market, while farmers were forced into long queues at depots across the State.

“For the first time in Telangana’s history, women farmers are sleeping outside depots, leaving shoes and Aadhaar cards in queues to mark their place. Some have even faced police cases for simply demanding fertiliser. Such humiliation never occurred in KCR’s 10-year rule,” he asserted.

Demand for White Paper, Central probe

The BRS leader demanded that the State government publish a White Paper on fertiliser supplies, including Centre allocations, stock positions in warehouses, distribution to farmers, and missing quantities. He also urged the Centre to order a comprehensive probe into the diversion of fertiliser.

‘Congress, BJP equally guilty’

KTR came down heavily on both national parties, stating that Telangana’s eight Congress MPs and eight BJP MPs had failed to secure any benefit for the State. “Eight plus eight has only meant zero for Telangana,” he remarked.

He accused Rahul Gandhi of maintaining silence on the fertiliser crisis despite making lofty promises in his “Rythu Declaration.”

‘Failures of CM Revanth’s Government’

Listing out what he called the failures of the Congress regime, KTR said the government had disappointed farmers on every front—loan waiver, Rythu Bandhu, free power, procurement, bonus, crop insurance, and now fertiliser.

“Over 600 farmers have already committed suicide under this government. Revanth Reddy has visited Delhi 51 times but could not bring even 51 bags of urea,” he said.

'Not aligned with either NDA or INDIA bloc'

KTR reiterated that BRS was not aligned with either the NDA or the INDIA blocs, stressing that ‘the people of Telangana are our only bosses.’ He warned that if the crisis continued, BRS would soon launch a statewide agitation from village to state level.

“Farmers should not lose hope. BRS will fight until this problem is resolved. We will not allow the Congress government to derail Telangana’s farming progress,” he declared.
