Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) alleged that the Congress-led Telangana government has completely failed in tackling the State’s acute water crisis. He claimed that despite rivers overflowing, people are left struggling for drinking and irrigation water.
‘Rivers brimming but people thirsty’
KTR criticised the government for not utilising the abundant waters of the Krishna and Godavari rivers effectively.
“While the rivers are brimming, the Congress government has failed to divert and utilise the water. The gates of Kaleshwaram have been opened, but crucial projects like Palamuru and Rangareddy have been abandoned,” he alleged.
‘People are crying for water’
Expressing concern over the situation, KTR wrote on X, “Yesterday, every household had tap water. Today, people are crying due to the lack of drinking and irrigation water.”
Drying borewells and withering crops
He warned that the drying up of reservoirs, ponds and borewells will soon expose the government’s inefficiency.
“Borewells are running dry, fields are withering and the fraud of the government will be visible soon,” he said, adding that the crisis is affecting agriculture as well as daily household needs.
‘Tankers in high demand, officials unresponsive’
Highlighting the gravity of the problem, KTR said the demand for water tankers has surged to over 8,000 per day.
“Despite repeated calls, officials are not responding. Tankers are not arriving even after two days of waiting. People are suffering; they cannot buy water, and they cannot get water,” he added.
‘Complete failure of governance’
Calling the crisis a result of mismanagement, KTR accused the Congress government of ‘sacrificing drinking water’ and neglecting the basic needs of people in both urban and rural areas.
