KTR slams Congress for targeting poor with HYDRAA demolitions

BRS working president KT Rama Rao inspected Fatehnagar STP

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao condemned the Congress governmentā€™s ā€˜barbaric actions with the indiscriminate demolition of houses of underprivileged families in the name of HYDRAAā€™.

A delegation of BRS party MLAs led by KTR inspected the Fatehnagar Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Kukatpally to take stock of the work progress during the Congress government.

Speaking to media persons, KTR described the ā€˜vicious actā€™ of the authorities who forced the students to vacate the premises to demolish the structures without giving them time to take their school books.

ā€˜Victims of HYDRAA can approach BRSā€™

ā€œWhen a young girl called Vedashree explained about the pain of seeing her parents pour petrol on themselves in front of her after the demolition of their house by the HYDRAA, the incident made everyone emotional,ā€ he said.

ā€œNo matter what the problem is. The victims of the HYDRAA can approach the BRS State Office at the Telangana Bhavan. Legally, the BRS public representatives, leaders and the legal cell will stand with the victims,ā€ KTR added.

KTR questions need for the Musi River Cleaning Project

Referring to the Musi River Project, he said that the sewage water flowing through various canals in Hyderabad would be treated by the STP plant and then released into the Musi River.

ā€œWhat is the necessity of the Musi River Cleaning Project, particularly in light of Hyderabadā€™s 94 per cent sewage treatment success? During the BRS regime, the aim was to attain 100 per cent. Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy is only making tall claims of beautifying the Musi River now,ā€ KTR said.

The BRS president further said that there is no need to clean the Musi River again.

The STP plants have been started by the previous BRS government and almost all of them are near completion. If the government extends financial support they will be completed in the next two to three months, he said.

He slammed the government and ministersā€™ outrageous and inconsistent cost estimates for the project, which ranged from ā€˜Rs 50,000 crores to Rs 1.5 lakh croresā€™.

Given the uneven cost estimates and the absence of a detailed project report (DPR) prior to revealing such high figures, KTR conjectured that the project might be a front for corruption.

Referring to the statements made by CM Revanth Reddy regarding Hyderabadā€™s incapacity to construct double-bedroom homes, the BRS working president questioned the governmentā€™s logic behind offering housing for the underprivileged people uprooted by the Musi project.
