New Delhi: All India Mahila Congress today sought justice for Roshni Jaiswal from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as he happens to be an MP from Varanasi.
Jaiswal was being stalked by BJP leader Saffron Rajesh Singh, who even threatened her with rape when she lodged a complaint. Instead of getting justice, her husband, brother, and five others were jailed under section 307 of the IPC.
Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here today, Alka Lamba along with Haryana MLA and former Olympian Vinesh Phogat revealed how Jaiswal was being subjected to severe injustice by the Varanasi Police just because she had raised the voice for the gang-rape victim of the Banaras Hindu University and later resisted the threats by Rajesh Singh.
āIt is a tragic irony that while the victim is being subjected to innumerable harassment by the police, the culprit is roaming freelyā, she observed.
Lamba disclosed that Saffron Rajesh Singh was not only being protected by the BJP leaders, but he had also got a case under section 307 registered against Jaiswal, her husband, her brother, and five other associates.
She revealed that the Varanasi administration had gone to the extent of pasting auction notice on Jaiswalās house with the beating of drums to defame and malign her.
Narrating the details, Lamba said that when Saffron Rajesh Singh did not stop stalking and harassing Jaiswal, she along with her husband, brother, and five other associates went to his house to expose him (Rajesh Singh) in front of his family members.
She said there was an altercation and scuffle between the two sides. She said when Jaiswal lodged a complaint in the police station, Rajesh Singh was summoned there. He reached the police station along with some BJP leaders. He was let off that moment only, while Jaiswalās husband, brother, and five associates were put behind bars on September 15. They are still languishing in jail, Lamba said, while adding, they were being subjected to acute torture in the jail.
Lamba questioned the silence and support of the BJP leaders for someone like Rajesh Singh who was openly threatening Jaiswal with rape.
The Mahila Congress president urged the Prime Minister and sought his attention for justice for Jaiswal, who was not only being stalked by Rajesh Singh but is now being harassed along with her family by the police and the administration.
Vinesh Phogat said she had faced similar mental harassment as faced by Roshni Jaiswal today. And the only reason for this is that women like them show the courage to speak against the mighty people. She asked whether is it Roshniās fault that she knew how to fight.
She said that people like Saffron Rajesh get encouraged to give threats of rape only because of protection by the BJP government. She said the countryās daughters like Roshni, Sakshi Malik, and herself are there to fight and they provide a glimmer of hope.
Vinesh said they will fight together to provide justice to Roshni and other women facing harassment. She added that the fight will continue till Roshni gets justice and the person threatening her and making indecent remarks against her gets punished.
