Hyderabad: Chaos erupted at MLC Teenmaar Mallanna’s office in Medipally on Sunday when Telangana Jagruthi activists attacked his premises, forcing his gunman to open fire in the air to disperse the mob.

Protest turns violent

The protestors, angered by Mallanna’s alleged derogatory remarks against their leader and BRS MLC K Kavitha, stormed his office, damaged furniture and smashed window panes. They raised slogans against the MLC, allegedly assaulted staff and attempted to enter his chamber.

Blood stains reportedly seen on premises

As the situation worsened, Mallanna’s gunman fired five rounds into the air to control the mob. Mallanna, who was present at the office, reportedly suffered injuries to his hand during the scuffle.

Television visuals showed blood stains inside the office, though the number of injured remained unclear.

What is the reason behind the protest?

Police teams rushed to the spot and began investigations into the incident.

Telangana Jagruthi, the cultural wing of BRS led by Kavitha, was enraged by Mallanna’s comments questioning Kavitha’s connection with Backward Classes.

The remarks were made during his criticism of her celebrations over the Telangana government’s ordinance enhancing BC reservations to 42 per cent in local bodies.

Mallanna’s political journey

Teenmaar Mallanna, born Chintapandu Naveen, is known for his aggressive language against political rivals.

Suspended by the Congress on March 1 for anti-party activities, he was elected as an MLC from Warangal-Nalgonda-Khammam graduates’ constituency in June 2024 as a Congress candidate.

Earlier, he had contested as an independent in 2021, later joined the BJP after release from jail, and switched to Congress after its 2023 victory.

He runs a YouTube channel, QNews, and has been a vocal critic of former chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) and his family, with multiple cases registered against him in the past.
