Move to rename NTR University of Health Sciences unconstitutional: Naidu writes to Guv
"Interestingly, the Cabinet approval was taken during dark hours, which points to the unconstitutional and anti-people nature of the Bill", Naidu alleged.

TDP chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu submitted a letter to Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan and asked him to intervene and stop the unconstitutional and anti-people proposal to change the name of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences.
In the letter, Mr. Naidu mentioned the anti-people policies of the YSRCP-led state government that aimed to undo the development and welfare activities initiated by the previous governments. "The latest straw is the YSRCP-led government's proposal to change the name of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada is not only regressive but also vindictive in nature," Mr. Naidu wrote.
Dr. Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) conceived the idea of a health university in the then undivided state of Andhra Pradesh and established the Andhra Pradesh University of Health Sciences at Vijayawada in 1986, the first of its kind in the country. The university itself was established after taking over Siddhartha Medical College, a private college, in order to bring all the medical colleges under one affiliation. Until then, medical colleges across Andhra Pradesh were affiliated to different universities. Later, in 1998, the university was renamed Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences in memory of the late Dr. NTR and to commemorate his services to the field of medicine in general and the University of Health Sciences in particular by the then government of Andhra Pradesh.
"The paranoid and schizophrenic mindset of the YSRCP-led government is evident from the fact that the name changing of the university was undertaken in the year when Telugus across the country were celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of NTR," Mr. Naidu said in the letter.
He said that the Bill to change the name of the university was passed in the AP Legislative Assembly when the Opposition was not in the House. Interestingly, the Cabinet approval was taken during dark hours, which points to the unconstitutional and anti-people nature of the Bill, he alleged.
