Municipal polls an ‘Acid Test’: CM Revanth predicts 90% victory for Congress in Telangana

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday described the recent municipal elections as an “acid test” for his administration, expressing confidence that the Congress government would secure 85 to 90 per cent of municipalities and corporations across the state.

Addressing a public gathering, the Chief Minister said the results would reflect public approval of the government’s performance over the past two years.

Backward sections must be partners in governance

Stating that his primary intention was to serve the people, the Chief Minister asserted that backward and marginalised communities must become active partners in governance.

He highlighted that Scheduled Castes (SCs) have been given four ministerial berths along with the Speaker’s post, adding that the government is consciously promoting social justice and inclusive political representation.

20 acres in Nallamala for Sant Sevalal Statue

The Chief Minister announced that 20 acres of land have been allocated in Nallamala for the installation of a statue of Sant Sevalal Maharaj. He said future Jayanti celebrations would be conducted at the same site to preserve tribal traditions and cultural heritage.

Several Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, corporators and other public representatives attended the programme.

Confident of sweeping majority

Referring to the municipal elections held on February 11 for 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations, the Chief Minister said he had earlier predicted that the Congress would win 80 per cent of the seats.

“Though some works are yet to be completed, there has been no shortfall in our efforts,” he said, expressing confidence that the party would improve upon its earlier estimate and secure 85–90 per cent of local bodies.

Veiled attack on BRS

In an apparent attack on the opposition BRS, the Chief Minister said the people had experienced its governance and decisively voted it out of power. He alleged that instead of introspecting over its mistakes, the party was blaming voters for its defeat.

Roads to connect all Tandas

The Chief Minister further stated that he had directed officials to ensure the laying of bituminous (BT) roads to connect all tandas across the state, aiming to improve rural connectivity and infrastructure development.

He reiterated that the government remains committed to strengthening grassroots governance and delivering quality education and development across constituencies.
