Niranjan urges EC to act: PM’s claims against Telangana Congress baseless
Niranjan said, PM Modi made wild and baseless allegations against the Congress party and verbally attacked the party leaders
By Newsmeter Network Published on 8 May 2024 1:31 PM GMTHyderabad: Congress leader G Niranjan wrote to the Election Commission of India (EC) alleging another breach of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by prime minister Narendra Modi on the campaign trail.
In a letter to Rajiv Kumar, chief election commissioner, Niranjan said, PM Modi made wild and baseless allegations against the Congress party and verbally attacked the party leaders in a public meeting in Karimnagar on Wednesday.
This is not the first time the Congress leader has approached the EC with complaints against the BJP leaders. On Tuesday, he filed a complaint against PM Modi for allegedly making children participate in a public election meeting at Khargone in Madhya Pradesh. Niranjan has at least written six times to the commission against alleged MCC violations by PM Modi at multiple public meetings on the campaign trail. He also filed a police complaint against Union home minister Amit Shah for allegedly using children in an election rally in Hyderabad.
‘PM wrong about Congress in Telangana’
“Modi also alleged that the Congress party has not acted on the collapse of the piers of the Medigadda barrage of the Kaleshwaram project after coming to power. This is not true,” the chairman of the Election Commission Coordination Committee added.
In fact, the Congress government after coming to power ordered a vigilance enquiry. The CM and other ministers personally visited the spot to make a spot assessment, he said.
He said that the Congress government requested the National Dam Safety Authority to assess the damage and suggest revival measures and appointed a commission headed by retired Supreme Court judge Pinaki Chandra Ghose to enquire into the lapses in the construction of the Kaleshwaram project.
“Despite all these steps by the Congress government PM Modi blamed the Congress party,” he said.
‘Modi made personal attacks on Congress leaders’
The Congress leader said that PM Modi made personal attacks indirectly on chief minister Revanth Reddy and Rahul Gandhi by saying that the ‘RR’ tax is being imposed in the state.
“He (Modi) alleged that the Congress party and its leadership insulted former PM PV Narasimha Rao which is far from the truth,” he added.
“He also mentioned a ‘danger’ to SC, ST and BCs from the Congress party as Congress would transfer their reservations to Muslims. He said that if Congress comes to power it will lock the Ram Mandir. These allegations are false and go against the MCC,” he said.
