Hyderabad- AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019.

In his petition he prayed for staying implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, and the Amendment Rules, 2024 till the final disposal of the instant writ petition

“During the pendency of these proceedings, no recourse shall be permitted to be taken by any person to the proviso to Section 2(1)(b) of the Citizenship Act, 1955 (as it stands amended by the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 in any proceedings relating to citizenship before any court, tribunal or authority in India;” he pleaded.

He said directions should be issued that no applications seeking grant of citizenship status be entertained or processed by the respondents under Section 6B of the Citizenship Act,1955 (as it stands amended by the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019) during the pendency of the proceeding

“No applications seeking grant of citizenship status be entertained or processed by the Respondents herein under the proviso to Clause (d) of the Third Schedule of the Citizenship Act,1955 (as it stands amended by the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019) during the pendency of the proceedings; e. Pass any other appropriate order as this Hon'ble Court may deem fit,” he said.
