Owaisi dismisses clarification about CAA as a lie; pitches for refugee law

“It’s a lie that it will not impact Muslims. Once religion is accepted as the basis of Indian citizenship, the next step is to deny it on religious grounds. If this was about persecuted minorities in Bangladesh or Pakistan, the CAA rules will have required applicants to prove that they were persecuted in their home country,” Owaisi said.
Taking to X, Asaduddin Owaisi said that the CAA must be read with NPR-NRC since that’s what Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in Parliament. "In Assam, CAA is meant to give citizenship to those Hindu Bengalis who were excluded from NRC, Muslims in a similar situation won’t get its benefit. Assam Chief Minister Hemant Kumar Biswas is on record saying this," he said.
AIMIM chief asked if it was about persecuted minorities, then why are Sri Lankan Tamils, Burmese Hindus, and Tibetan Buddhists excluded? “Make a refugee law if you want to protect asylum seekers. CAA-NPR-NRC serves only one purpose: making Indian nationality/citizenship one based on Hindu identity,” he added.
Owaisi also lampooned the Press Information Bureau (PIB)). “You don’t need to spin a `positive narrative’ about something that’s done for harmless reasons,” said Owaisi.
